And Now For Something Completely Different

Now, I think we all know that I pretty much hate that song. But it's a rather hilarious image. And it segues really well into today's post: The Bustle! (In honor of the coming blizzard....or something...)

Actress Agnes Ethel

1874 Austria

1885 Terrible picture quality, but Great bustle (and that HAIR!)

1870s Some bustles (not necessarily this one) were so elaborate and huge that they had stools built into them (hidden away out of sight of course) because there really was no way for a woman to actually sit whilst wearing a dress of such (in the words of Georgia Nicholson) 'bottomosity'.

1870s Bustles came in two waves: A more rounded, sleek hump in the early 1880s, and an enormous and frilly phwompf! of fabric in the mid 1870s

1870s Puff! Odd- but still qualifying!

1880s Mme Emile Straus
